Afternoon Lull

Walker had a marvelous time at day one of his "Eureka" inventor's camp at the Dallas Arboretum. He came home, plopped on the sofa with Charlie and took in an hour of Sesame Street. Now we're off to our Monday night piano lesson and the beat goes on!

She Really Is Martha Poppins

She's even got an umbrella.

Last night, while we were watching "Sound of Music", during the "favorite things" section which is accompanied by an on-screen thunder storm, we heard a thunderstorm of our own roll in. And being the wriggly, antsy little boy that Walker is, he couldn't sit still with all of that electrical energy swirling around just outside of the window. So Martha Popins raced Walker to the doorway for a run in the rain to, as she put it, "get all the wiggles out". Here are photos of their rainy night romp just before nightfall.

The Pirates of Monkey Bay

Today, we took a slew of old books to the used book store in hopes of selling them. We were very successful and Walker came home with a pirate book that came with a paper pirate ship. The packaging promised "easy assembly" and "no glue needed" and "fun for the whole family".

After five hours of painstaking piecing together and lots of peering at instructions and saying "read that bit again" and "Gosh honey, I'm not sure either", Walker and I managed to create a pirate ship. It's a little wobbly as you might imagine. It was not easy, but it was certainly fun. So may we present the Pirate Ship of Monkey Bay!

Friday at the Arboretum

Okay, Jack... I don't want to hear about how it was 68 degrees in LaLaLand today. So instead, I'll tell you about our day because it's all about the Greenman boys on this blog. Today, Dallas reached 99 degrees, so we thought a little Arboretum outing was in order. We hit the garden, sweated it out and had a great time. My favorite thing was the wind tunnel in the alternative energy area. Walker's favorite was climbing the netting around the central tree. And Charlie's favorite was standing at the cafe tables in the waterfall area. And Martha? This was her first time to the Children's Adventure Garden, so she loved it all! Here are some photos from our day.

Once we were home, we had a little cuddle time with Griffin.

We think we're funny.

Over the past few days, Marth and Kellen have been taking photos on their phone with snap-chat, which allows them to caption their photos. Here are two of my favorite from this past week.

Power Outage

Last night around 6:30pm our power went out due to some kind of equipment failure. About 18 houses in the area were affected. Kellen, the boys and I stayed outside until dark because the house was so dim. As night set in, we lit candles and tried to put Charlie to bed, who was a little freaked out by the total blackness and lack of sound (no whirring air conditioners, no buzzing screens, no distant TV mumbles - just silence). Needless to say, Charlie didn't get to bed until 9:30pm and Walker didn't crash until well after 10pm.

This morning, Charlie was up at 5:30am, but then fell dead asleep around 7:30am. Walker is still zonked out in my bed at 8am. Power came back on around 5:30am. All the lights in the house lit up and I listened to the zippy crackle as all of our devices came back online. The air kicked back in and I got up and watched the house temperature fall from 83 to 74 degrees. It was a warm dark night, but everyone is safe and happy and sound asleep now. Well, except of course for me and the dog.
