Charlie's Chair

Here's a shot that Alison Power took last week while we were visiting their home.  Their daughters, Evelyn and Eleanor, both took turns wheeling Charlie around the house.  He loved every minute of it!

Constriction Therapy

Charlie has been trying out some constriction therapy this past week.  His OT tapes his strong fingers down and leaves only his weak pointer and thumb fingers free.  This is helping Charlie to learn that all important pincer grasp.  So far its working pretty well.  Here he is removing a peg from a foam board with his fingers.

Look at that concentration!

Pa John has Come and Gone

My Dad's trip to Dallas is over a bit early. He and Walker had some time together while Charlie and I flew to North Carolina to say goodbye to my Great Aunt Lois. We were hoping to have some more time with Pa John, but Los Angeles was calling all actors back to the barn.  Farewell and we'll see you again soon!

Artistes

A day of art at the Greenman house.

Walker's finished product.

Pa John's seascape. (Walker thought there should be a body washed up on the shore.)

Walker's second piece.

Some performance art.

Mama's work in progress.

And a book I'm trying to read in between diapers and therapy appointments.

A Process of Discovery

My dad and I took Walker and Charlie to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science today. It was Charlie's second time out in his new wheelchair.  I am so impressed with his stamina.  The poor kiddo blew through his nap and spent almost three hours surrounded by running children and loud voices and flashing lights. He looked, he touched, he interacted and I think he generally had a great time!  Walker LOVED the Perot Museum.  I'm glad because I picked up a family membership while I was there.

After our BIG day out, we enjoyed some fresh air in our front yard.  The weather is perfect and the mosquitoes aren't out yet.  We made the most of this beautiful day!

Charlie touches a light sensitive wall.

Walker and I check out the expanding universe.

Walker manipulates RGB colors of light.

Charlie stands still while Earth orbits below him.

Charlie says, "moon".

Charlie reaches out to feel rock layers.

Walker and I experience a 9.5 earthquake.

Walker and I discuss the finer points of Barometric Pressure.

Walker gives this machine a crank to create energy and art on a near by video screen!

Charlie lets me do hand over hand guides and pushes his own wheelchair.

Charlie splashes in the water feature outside the museum.

Back at home, Pa John and Walker get goofy.

Family Outings

Jack was home for a quick 48 hours before heading off to Chicago this week.  We decided to make the most of it by heading out of doors to enjoy some Gelato!  Walker went for dark chocolate, as usual. Charlie got his own cup of ice cream for the first time EVER!  He went with the more traditional vanilla bean.

Then, a trip to Coffee Park with the red wagon.

On Monday, Charlie received his spectacular new wheelchair!  They did a beautiful job fitting it perfectly to his wee proportions.  I'm very happy with it and we're all looking forward to Charlie's greater mobility and autonomy with the help of his new ride.  Here he is on his maiden voyage with Walker to navigate.  We walked to the neighborhood park together!
