Weekend Away Part 2

Day Two - Austin and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center! We were first greeted by this lovely Greenman!

Walker was particularly fond of this scorpion sculpture. Maybe its because he's a Scorpio? Whatever the reason, I think its a pretty scary looking sculpture. Eeek!

A little back story on the following photo. I've been battling the pigeons on our patio for the past few weeks. They've been building and re-building nests but I go out every few hours to sweep away their hard work. After being away for only 48 hours, we came home to this:

Blue Bonnets

Dallas, usually plagued with inhospitable weather, boasts a few gorgeous weeks when Blue Bonnets cover the fields. They are so profuse and stunning this year that we jumped on board with thousands of other Dallas families to take some photos in the Blue Bonnets! Thank you to Heather for the gorgeous photos!

Helping

Everyday a pair of pigeons attempt to build a nest of sticks on our patio. They work and work and chortle and peck and when they're about ready to settle in, I sweep it away. Walker has been watching this process with great interest. Today, he wanted to help out. The cute part is that he makes the sweeping sound with his mouth while he sweeps. Pretty cute.

Morning Be Bo

This is Walker in the morning.

After our groggy boy wakes up we like to read. One of our favorites is "The Belly Button Book" by Sandra Boynton, in which a young belly button obsessed hippo explains why hippos love their "Be Bos".

Reading this book usually instigates a rumpus round of "Be Bo" hunting as seen in the video below. Walker tackles us and tries to strip our shirts to our belly buttons. As you can imagine, it quickly devolves into a tickle game.



Then we spend some time looking out the window.
What did we see today? Leaf blowers. Fascinating!

Boys

We were out and about today. Its lovely and overcast. We met up with some friends at the Fort Worth Zoo for lunch and a spin around the park. Here is a quick look at our boys on the go:

King of the Pram

As many of you know, Walker and I have a group of wonderful Mama's with one-year-old kiddos that meet once a week. This week we went to the Dallas Arboretum to see all the tulips and enjoy the seasonal children's exhibits. The point was to picnic and frolic and let the kids burn off a little steam. One of the strollers in our gaggle had a steering wheel and stick shift built into the tray. As soon as Walker spotted this, it was all over. He sat in the stroller during our picnic and stayed in it for the duration of our visit. While other children played on the life size pirate ship, Walker "drove" his stroller. While others played in the Lorax's hut and swung from the trees, Walker "drove" his stroller. When the time came to extract Walker from his throne, he wailed and thrashed and cried out "No!" It was my first real taste of a public temper tantrum. Wish us luck, because I fear this is just the beginning! Here is Walker fending off those who wish to conquer him and steal his stroller.


Not only is this NOT his stroller, it's also NOT his sippy cup. Ugh.

Things that make you go "vroom!"

Good morning! Everyday after Jack makes breakfast, Walker directs our attention to the reading corner for a quick round of "car" books. Animals? Nope. Circus? Nope. Trees and Flowers? Nope. Suess? Nope. Silverstein? Nope. All he wants is cars and things that go "vroom!". Here we are enjoying our morning read.
