14 days left...

...until the boys and I hop a plane for Cedar City, Utah!  Walker and I made a calendar to mark the time and give him some control over the days as they pass.  All in all, we're doing pretty well sans daddy.  Don't get me wrong - we'd rather be all together.  But these past five days haven't been as difficult as I thought they might be.

I wanted to share some blurry but cute photos of Charlie today, taken while I was at boot camp. Charlie's been a drooly mess this week - I think he's got a new set of molars coming in.  Every shirt I put on him is socked in a matter of minutes.  I feel bad about putting him in bibs all day long.  I need to find him some jaunty bandanas - something less baby-ish and more toddler-y.

And this beautiful card came home from school with Walker yesterday!
So sweet!

Diaper and a Bib

Yesterday Charlie wore only a diaper and bib for most of the day.  It was warm in the house and he seemed happy going bare.  He's just like his brother.  Here he is at meal time in the highchair.

Work and Play

Yesterday after boot camp and a round of errands, the boys fell dead asleep in the car.  It was the first time since Charlie was a tiny baby that they were both sleeping at the same time.  I drove around the neighborhood for a half hour and enjoyed the sudden silence.

Today, Charlie met again with his occupational therapist, Cyndi.  She's been doing lots of muscle manipulation, which is why Charlie is without his shirt.  Today, she propped him up on the ball to work on weight shift and arm strength.  On Sunday, Charlie sat unassisted for almost 4 minutes.  This is an ENORMOUS leap from his usual 20 -30 seconds.  He sat for about 2 minutes today for Cyndi.  Everyone is thrilled about his newfound core strength.  He's been working very hard and its starting to really pay off.

We also met today with Katherine, Charlie's service coordinator and therapy support guru.  She did a 21 month work up and assessment of his physical, mental and social progress.  It's just a little snapshot of his current state for doctors and therapists.  He is now scoring in the 8-10 month range for most physical and mental stuff, which is mostly due to his lack of mobility and speech.  He's scoring a few months ahead of where he was in the fall, which is great.  The wonderful, yet not surprising news is that for social interaction he is scoring in the 18 month range - normal for a boy his age.  Yay!

Peek-A-Boo with Charlie

On Monday, Charlie played peek-a-boo all by himself for the first time!  In the past, Jack or I would cover his face with a cloth and Charlie would reach up and grab the cloth off of his face.  But on Monday, he started putting the cloth in front of his own face as well as pulling it off for the reveal.  Its so much more satisfying for him when he's in control of the whole game.  Such fun!

Of course, Walker climbed into bed to get in on the act as well!

Social Butterflies

We spent the morning at boot camp - first I watched the kids during class in the child care co-op.  Then I left the boys with another mama and attended the second class.  I had 11 children during my watch!  Eleven!  Luckily, its only one hour and it goes by fast.  Especially when I have spider man to help me out!

After boot camp, we headed off for a picnic with some friends.  We discovered a lovely bridge over looking a creek that was home to all sorts of animals.  We spied fish, ducks and best of all... turtles!

We did a little exploring down a woodland path and found a brick wall perfect for climbing!

Potato Gun

Walker, Charlie and I had a lovely play date today with an actor friend of mine and her sweet son, Henry.  We enjoyed lots of conversation, playing and grazing on yummy veggies and crackers.  And Walker went home with a treat: a potato gun.  You stick the tip of the barrel in a potato to secure your ammo.  Then you pump the air gun and it shoots the potato "bullet".  Its really quite brilliant.  Here's a shot of Walker on the way home, sound asleep, holding his gun.  He was all tuckered out.  (Yes, I am letting my son shoot a fake gun.  Yet another step away from my "Mother of the Year" title.)
