Jack's Visit

Jack was home for a few days from Utah.
Here are my favorites from our three days together.

Walker and Jack watch cars on the video screen.
(Notice that they have the same expression.)
Walker mimics Mama on the computer.

Walker's favorite part of the day - rough housing with Dad!
Something that is sorely lacking when Mama is on duty solo.

At the park again with Daddy!

Before Daddy Came Home

We spent some time with our Thursday play group. Such fun to swim and play and eat and enjoy a summer day. Here are some shots that other more prepared mamas took with their cameras. (I forgot my camera AND my towel). The hostess of our play date also happens to be the person that bought our old piano. Walker immediately pulled up a chair and started playing - old friends reunited.

Then out to the pool for some serious water time.

Walker and Mo floating about.

Tomorrow

Jack - I sat down to post today's goings on and realized that you are already en route to Las Vegas. And that you probably won't get a chance to see this entry until after you've arrived home. HOME HOME HOME! Isn't it the most wonderful word ever invented? Walker was a fire cracker again today, so I took him to our favorite park to blow off some steam. I can't wait to see you tomorrow. xo - S&W

Rain Day

The day started with rain rain and rain. We sat on the back patio and watched it come down by the bucket. Walker was very impressed.

When the rain cleared, we went to meet some Mama-friends for a trolley ride to the Dallas Museum of Art. The first Tuesday of every month is free admission, so we and thousands of other Dallas families showed up in full force. Walker met a new friend today - James, who is four. James wanted to hug Walker, feed Walker, push Walker's stroller, carry Walker around and be his big brother. I told James he could come home with me and help out with child care.

The trolley, of course, was BIG fun.

It's our old friend, William!

Here are Jacki and baby Aldous in the foreground and Beth with baby Silas in the back.

And of course, you recognize these people.

Once at the museum, Walker headed straight for the drawing area. This boy LOVES to "daw".

After lunch, Walker lost his cool - so we headed home. Here he is on the trolley home - a little less animated than our first trip.

I have no photos for the second half of the day because Walker napped and then decided to pout and screech and wreak general havoc in the house. Jack, Walker is a toddler now and I want you to be prepared when you return this Thursday. You know what will probably happen? You'll come home and he'll be an angel. Then I'll really feel foolish. We love you and miss you!

The Anatomy of a Tantrum

Walker slept for almost 14 hours last night! Then he had a two hour nap from 10am to noon. This kid is starting to take after his Mama. I love my sleep and evidently so does Walker. I had two massage appointments scheduled for today, (giving - not receiving, unfortunately) so Walker spent some time in the afternoon with the Smiths! What in the world would we do without these lovely friends? We'd perish. That's what would happen. Anyway, they took Walker to a neighborhood splash park for some fun in the sun! (Thanks for taking some photos, Anne.) Before we left the Smiths he said Anne's name very clearly. Ashley's name was a little muddled, but it was a valiant attempt. By the way, Walker has been saying his own name pretty frequently for two days now! When he knows he's doing something wrong he raises his voice and says, "Walker no!"

Isn't there a song by the Mamas and the Papas that goes, "Monday, Monday, can't trust that day." Well, I think they were on to something. Walker was kind of a pill this afternoon. After we had a little snack and brushed our teeth, Walker decided to drag a lamp off of his side table. After the third time - I put him in his crib for a quick time out. The first thing he did is call out for his flying plane. See below:

Then he tried to bust out of jail - which he is totally capable of doing now. He throws his right leg up over the bar and then squeezes his thigh muscles to raise the other leg up to bar level. When his whole body is parallel with the top bar he rolls over the top and drops down onto the floor. This has only happened twice now... but I'm probably going to bring out the twin very soon.

When I admonished him for climbing out of the crib. The following events ensued. Ladies and Gentleman, Friends and Family, I give you a photo tour of what I call, "The Anatomy of a Tantrum".

Then, after 30 seconds of tirade, he fell back into his crib and laughed. Please God help me.

After his little breakdown, everything returned to normal. At dinner, Walker ate his weight in pasta marinara with ground beef and mushrooms. After wolfing down two big bowls, he enjoyed a desert of black berries, which he calls "back babies". Yum, yum, yum.

We read "Cars and Trucks and Things That Go" for the umpteenth time and Walker crashed out on my shoulder before I could even get him into bed. Can you say 'growth spurt'?
