Boy Scouts of America

Our UU church in Dallas just started the first ever openly gay inclusive boy scout troop! And Walker is now a proud member! Our first hike will be on the morning of Walker's birthday to Cedar Ridge here in Dallas! Here's our happy camper in his new uniform. Now Mom, needs to stitch some troop numbers to his shirt sleeve!

Date with Walker at the DMA

Today, we left Charlie with Yaneth at home and took our older explorer to the Dallas Museum of Art and also to Klyde Warren Park. It was a beautiful day in Dallas and we wanted some alone time with Walker. This kid has been doing so well given all the new changes in his world. A new school, a new schedule, new friends, a new after school care program, and all of this in a matter of 2 weeks. His behavior has been exemplary and his attitude gracious and kind. So proud of Walker Super Starr.

Charlie the School Boy

Here are some photos from Charlie's first week of school.
Lots of equipment and lots of naps.

Play Ball

Right before school started, Walker, Jack and I all got baseball gloves! We've been having a great time tossing the ball around! Here's the boy and his Pops in our front yard.

Summer Lull

It's been eleventy million years since I last posted. The summer has been full. And frankly, I've taken some time to be lazy and irresponsible. But this week is special. Grandma Betsy is here from Seattle and the house is buzzing with all sorts of songs, games and silliness. Below are some photos that really capture our summer. Charlie and I spending lots of time in the school garden. Walker spending lots of time at the piano. And Charlie hanging with his FAVORITE person in the whole world - Daddy! This week, Charlie discovered that he was tall enough to climb up to the kitchen counter and reach to the UPPER cabinets and open the door. What? Yes.

Piano Recital & Fart Jokes

Today was Walker's third piano recital with Mrs. Jones. He did a beautiful job playing his solo piece, "The King's March" and his duet, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" was lovely. Walker also received a blue ribbon for his work with an outside judge while playing two baroque pieces in the early part of 2016. And Walker was most jazzed about receiving a gold medal for his state music theory test. He received 99 out of 101 possible points. Proud parents! After his recital, we took him for a celebratory meal where we sat around and told fart jokes.
