Week In Review

Just looking over some photos from the past week.  We have had lots of fun on the farm with Pa Obbie, Grandma Happy, Grammie Betsy and the Greenman four!  From barn spiders, to Happy's flower garden, to rushing rivers, to flood irrigation, to four-wheeling, to ball games with Charlie.  It's been a wonderful week.

This moth first landed on Betsy's head, then flew to Mama and then to me!

Charlie snug a swig when I wasn't looking...

I think Walker's Thomas Tank Engine sunglasses look great on me!

Charlie is learning to roll a ball back and forth!
Its such fun to watch him reach and experience such success!

Dad Forsea and Charlie discuss the finer points of cattle ranching and micro brews.

Sunday - Richland Style

This is our last night in Oregon without Jack. He and Grandma Betsy will be arriving from Seattle tomorrow afternoon! Betsy will only be staying a few days, but the Greenman Family Four will remain until the 15th of August. Here are some snap shots from our day...

Charlie Turns Two

Quiet day.  I took the boys to Halfway for a donut at "Stephanie's" (a new bakery in town) and then to the Lion's Club Park for a whirl on the play structure.  My goal was to get out of Pa Obbie and Happy's way while they were working on their bathroom plumbing.  Obbie was under the house for about 9 of 12 work hours today.  That guy is tough, let me tell you!

Then in the afternoon, we had our friend and Mama's neighbor over for dinner and cupcakes to celebrate Charlie.  Deanna and her son Edison spent a few rowdy but sweet hours with us. They are the loveliest people and I wish that I were geographically closer to Deanna.  She's from my tribe.

On the menu tonight for Charlie's birthday?  I grilled summer zucchini (from a Linda's garden) and Portabella mushrooms on the BBQ, marinated in olive oil, soy sauce and a host of herbs.  Then I topped that with cheddar cheese and threw it on a whole grain bun like a burger.  I also grilled Pattypan squash from Deanna's garden and served a spinach salad tossed with a lemon chive dressing and heirloom tomatoes, also from Deanna's garden.  For dessert, we had carrot cupcakes made with carrots from Karen's garden. I frosted them with cream cheese frosting and topped them with an orange sugared Fennel flower.  Fennel tastes of licorice, so the orange, pecans, carrot cake and rich frosting made for a great mix of flavors.  Charlie couldn't eat one strait, so I mushed up a cupcake, poured some milk over it and spoon fed it to him.  He LOVED it.

This is the face of a boy who just realized that his birthday cake is all finished.

A year ago today...

...we brought Charlie home from Medical City where he had just undergone a cranio-vault surgery.  I am gobsmacked by how fast this year has flown.  It's quite astonishing.  Instead of spending the day with eyes swollen shut, in a groggy drug induced state - Charlie spent his the anniversary of his homecoming swinging, splashing and sounding the day away.

Walker also had a great day.  He was VERY eager to help Papa Obbie with his plumbing job under the house.  So, when there was a lull in the construction, Obbie invited Walker into the "man cave".  Walker was thrilled to be traipsing around under the filthy, spider web invested underbelly of Happy's 100 year old farm house.  He has already proven to be far braver in the face of arachnids than his male predecessors from my side of the family tree.

After crawling around under the house, Mom and I took the boys to an offshoot of Eagle Creek for some good clean fun in the water.  It was a great way to clean up and cool off.  Here are our photos from the day!  Tomorrow: Charlie's 2nd birthday!
