Back to Zion with the Whole Family

Less than a week after my four day trek to Zion, I was back for another visit - this time with the whole family.  Jack had the day off so we arrived early to get a camp site at South Campground, a first come first serve spot. We found a lovely spot and spent the rest of the day enjoying the park.

Zion Park and the Virgin River get a big thumbs up from Walker.

Who knew it would be so tough to get socks on a four-year-old.

Or wipe a baby's face.

Walker caught a Ranger led story hour at the Zion Lodge.

While Walker was hearing about Zion's nocturnal animal population, 

Daddy and Charlie canoodled.

Back at the tent for Charlie's lunch.

As you can see, Walker is bored with Charlie's feeding time.

...but Charlie is happy.

I laid Charlie down for a nap.

Instead of sleeping, he just laughed at me and my silly ideas.

Then he went cross-eyed.

Daddy and Charlie drove home for the night to the comfort of their crib and C-Pap Machine.

Walker and I stayed to do some rugged outdoor things like going to a restaurant for dinner.

Walker insisted on Carrot Cake. I didn't argue.

Back on the shuttle to the campground.

Since dinner and carrot cake weren't enough, 

Walker had a ham and cheese sandwich as a nightcap.

Walker was meticulous about taking his shoes off outside of the tent

as not to track red dirt and rocks into the sleeping area. I love this boy.

Maybe this is where the term "Happy Camper" comes from.

Here is his solution.

Okay, he's a happy camper again.

We stayed up until the stars came out. Walker was a little put out by the hard ground 

upon which we slept, but it didn't seem to deter him from the task at hand.  

I had to wake him up at 8:30am this morning.  He is usually up at the crack of dawn!  

We were met this morning by a well-rested Charlie and Daddy.  We all had a wonderful breakfast at a local coffee shop and made it home in time for Jack's first call at the Shakespeare Festival!  Thanks Walker for being my camp partner.  For a first-timer, you did GREAT!

Charlie has done it a few flukey times, 

but now he's really getting the hang of it. 

Kolob Canyon Hike

Today, Jack's rehearsal schedule only required that he attend an evening run-through, so we took off for an afternoon hike in Kolob Canyon.  Walker did an amazing job and did very little complaining about the heat and the hike.  Charlie hung out happily in his baby pack and Jack and I enjoyed the gorgeous vistas and the stiff mountain breeze.  Here are some of the photos from our day:
