Meeting The Kenna's Kids Family

Last night we went to the Frisco Lakes Golf Course and met the Kenna's Kids Family.  We met board members, past recipients and their families and of course the other two incredible beneficiaries chosen for 2012.  It was a wonderful, hopeful and teary evening.  Jack and I are totally overwhelmed by this organization and their HUGE generosity.  Its an incredible community and I have the feeling they are about to change all of our lives in a big way.

We learned that the Saturday tournaments (both morning and afternoon) are completely full.  There are still some slots for the Friday afternoon tourney and room for volunteers as well.  The ball drop contest is not selling as well as they'd hoped, but are confident that will change as the date of the contest draws nearer.  So get the word out and sell those 10 dollar balls for the drop!

During the dinner, they also detailed what the day will be like - vendors, sponsors, events, live radio broadcasts, meals, presentations, awards ceremonies, DJs, etc.  Its going to be a circus.  And its going to be awesome.  And its all for Charlie, Grayson and Makenna - three of the most precious angels I have ever met.

Family Day (Finally)

Today was divine - divine weather, divine company and all the time in the world to enjoy it.  This was Jack's first day off since returning from Spain.  We all slept in and spent the morning lolling about with coffee and another viewing of "Hello, Dolly" - Walker's current favorite film.  Then we lunched on the patio followed by an outing to a near by park.  Tonight, we're headed north to Frisco to meet the Kenna's Kids board and former recipients.  I'm sure we will have photos and stories from tonight's dinner, but until then please enjoy these photos from our day.

Zoo Date

I'm playing a little catch-up here.  There are three posts in a row - all from the past five or six days. 

Walker's preschool class went to the zoo the other day instead of attending class!  The whole family was able to go and enjoy some much needed time together.  We tagged along with Walker's friend, Harper Ann and her mama, Leslie.  Walker and Harper Ann are like peas in a pod at school and were very excited to spend some "outside" time together.   

Our favorite part of the day?  

Feeding the giraffes!  

We also loved riding the Dallas Zoo's Monorail.

Time with Katherine

As you may or may not know, Charlie has a new team member on the therapy side of life.  This is Katherine and she is Charlie's private service coordinator.  She used to be in the theater (stage management and props) but she strayed - lured by her love of kids with big hearts and big needs.  Charlie is her newest kid.  She does everything from helping us file for social services, to attending appointments with me when Jack cannot, to tracking down adaptive equipment, to helping Charlie with ongoing physical therapy.  Here are some shots of our last meeting.

Katherine brought some crayons that are better suited to Charlie's grip issues so that he too can make a little art.  He's still not quite sure what to do with them, but those green hatch marks under his right hand are HIS!  Charlie was able to grip the ball of the crayon (you can see below) and "write" with the pointy tip.  Pretty cool, eh?

Tire Swing

On Sunday last, Walker and Charlie spent some time with a boot camp mama friend of mine.  When I came to pick up the kids, they were across the street in a neighbor's yard swinging away on a newly hung tire swing.  SO MUCH FUN!

Walker wanted to make sure that his beloved stuffed dog,
