Zoo Trip | Walker's Last Day of Kindergarten

I chaperoned a trip to the zoo today for Walker's school. Four kindergarten classes - 102 kids total - teachers and a handful of parents braved the Dallas Zoo mob scene. I was prepared for hot flashes, screaming kids, melt downs... the worst. And guess what. It was a blast. We got hot, we screamed, we melted down and still... it was a blast. Walker had a great time with his buddies. We saw lots of animals including some spring babies in the baboon habitat. We caught an African bird with a six foot wing span in flight. We ate lunch together, washed our hands together, used the facilities together and all got home safe. It was a great last day for Walker Starr. We have loved our neighborhood school and are so excited to start first grade!

First we started in class waiting for the bus and working on a color sheet.

Everyone wore a Super Skyview Student shirt!

The bus is here!

Some of the students had never been to the zoo before. Yay for first times!

Walker and Colin are super excited.

Watching penguins eat.

"Betty" the African bird.

Notice the lion behind Walker's hat!

Best buds hand in hand.

Kindergarteners on safari.

The class reconvenes to load up on the bus.

Home again home again jiggidy-jig.

Egg Hunt

Today we joined our neighbors, Steve and Jeri Wakefield, at their tree house and tennis court for an easter egg hunt. Lots of fun, lots of eggs and lots of sugar. It was the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon.

Happy Boy

Sorry for the long break from the blog. Between two trips (Austin and Las Vegas), Charlie being a bit under the weather and... well, laziness, I've been neglectful. But today, Charlie was all smiles on the back patio waiting for Walker to get home from school.

Big news for Charlie: after a visit to his preschool on Monday, I discovered that Charlie has been eating whole bananas and the tops of muffins during snack time for the past four weeks. His teacher has been slowly feeding him bite-by-bite with lots of success. Charlie is doing some light chewing and waiting until the food is small enough before swallowing. This is a huge step in getting this kid off of pureed foods!

And here is our hero home from kindergarten!
