Soaking it up and Taking it in

Yesterday was filled with all sorts of fun. We spent the morning at the local park in full view of the Pacific.

Walker has been watching all of the surfers riding the waves over the past week. He called the surf boards "foot boats". There is one surfer in particular who stand on his board at all times and used a long paddle to traverse the sea. Walker called him the "ocean sweep" because when he paddles, it looks like he is sweeping the water. Pretty cool. Walker found a boogie board in the garage of the rental and asked to try it out. Here's our first try at "surfing". He finished by saying "this is too BIG for Walker." He might be right.

Walker's great-Aunt Jenny joined us for an overnight stay. They had fun romping around on the beach and digging in the sand.

As you can see by the beaming faces below, we are having a wonderful time. This visit has been spectacular in every way possible. We still have a few more days on the shore and I intend to squeeze every last minute out of it!

Owen and Walker

Walker spent some time this afternoon with his cousin Owen! Owen is about to have his first birthday this week! We took the boys down to the beach - and Owen went right to work burrowing through the sand and bum-rushing the waves. He is totally fearless!

Walker climbed to the top of this rock barefoot.
He's a regular little monkey!

Warning: Naked Baby

Yesterday was a beautiful warm-ish day here in Cayucos. We started off with a walk along the grassy banks of Morro Strand Beach. Walker was more interested in exploring the mini flora and fauna than walking - but sometimes its nice to take it slow!

Eventually we concocted a way to keep our boy moving. I took off my scarf and asked him to hold up the back end as we walked.

When we returned from our walk we cracked open our gingerbread house kit - a gift from my step-sister, Amanda. Walker was very very eager to eat one of the gingerbread men.

After gingerbread house construction and a nap, we headed for the beach.

Walker took a spill in the water and had a pretty good collection of sand in his diaper. Instead of letting him run around and get a sand rash, we decided buff was best.

Time to head bak to the house!

Grad Reunion

Yesterday we met up with three of Jack's colleagues from graduate school. Kitty, Mark, and Joel all drove into Avila Beach with their beautiful families for a little play time! Walker had a fabulous time running around the park with the "big kids". It was an enormous treat for us all to spend a few hours together. Here are four of the original seven UC Irvine grads!

Winter Beach Bums

Heading down to the beach...

Warming up after a dip in the Pacific!

Here we are in Morrow Bay in front of the famous smoke stacks... which seem to be coming out the tops of our heads.
