Backyard Project | Bench Swing

Charlie loves to sit on a bench swing. We even strategize about park visits, making sure that we visit one with a bench swing, just because we know how much Charlie loves them. So when I saw a swing at a yard sale a few months back, I jumped on it, hoping to make it a permanent fixture in our back yard. Enter the very handy Pa Obbie and Grandma Happy who have spent the last two days working away on an arbor frame for our swing. I piddled around, trying to act helpful, but mostly just dug in the dirt and prepped my raised veggie garden. Mom and I ran into all sorts of weird bugs, larvae even a pair of baby snakes while gardening. In the end, the arbor and swing turned out beautifully with a little help, of course, from Walker Starr.

Happy and Pa Obbie Visit Dallas!

This weekend, we headed to the Arboretum for a little family fun and an impromptu game of Steam Roller. The kids loved the fresh air, kaleidoscope, and water guns and Mama got side tracked by the spiny winter cacti. Such a great day all around!

Last Day of Vacation

The boys and I were home today while Jack headed back to work. The boys return to school tomorrow. Jack is teaching a winter term for SMU - basically and accelerated 8 day acting class. Nice to have extra money to put towards Charlie's upcoming medical bills! Walker spent the day as a pirate ninja and Charlie sat at the piano for huge stretches of time, plinking away on the keys. Walker and I also tended to our new seedlings - we've planted kale, spinach and lettuces for our early spring garden. Right now they're sitting in the window sill. We'll move them outside when it warms up a little. It was super cold today, which prevented us from spending any real time outdoors. At first I was dreading this long day alone inside with the boys, but it turned out to be really nice. I even had enough time to make two loaves of bread from scratch - my first ever!
