Charlie has mastered the art of thumb sucking with his right hand. Its his favorite hobby. Now, we're hoping to help him suck his left hand, which has been left behind in the thumb sucking journey. As you know, Charlie's stroke is on the right side of his brain, affecting the left side of his body. And sometimes, he forgets about his left hand. While his mobility and elasticity is better than ever before, this is the perfect time to take the next step towards greater left hand use.
Charlie's physical therapist has ordered him this handy dandy splint to encourage the muscles to open and elongate. He'll wear it periodically through out the day for the next six months or so. Our main reason for doing this is so that when Charlie is signed by the Red Sox, he'll be able to switch hit.

Short and Sweet... and a kidney update
Gil, Quinn and Lisa returned home today. Our visit was fabulous and fun, short and sweet. We already miss them, but have some lovely memories to keep with us until next time! Here are some photos of Charlie and Mama just before bed last night.
On Sunday, the Greenman clan headed for the Arboretum. The weather was breezy and overcast, perfect for a day at the lake. Quinn was so impressed with the green-ness of the grass that he had to get a little closer.
After the Arboretum, we head downtown for gelato and a very full trolley ride around the arts district. We saw this Vespa on the street with its own Texas flair.
After our spin around Uptown, and dinner at our favorite restaurant, The Porch, we headed home for some kid canoodling.
Charlie Update:
We met with Charlie's urologist today. She explained that Charlie's kidneys were functioning beautifully and that he had no signs of swelling (as in his previous ultrasound), infection, scaring or damage due to his duplicate collecting system. She concluded that he does NOT need surgery to correct the duplicate system and that he should stop taking the antibiotics effective immediately. She wants to see him in six months for another check up and then after that, our pediatrician will conduct a yearly renal exam to watch out for kidney issues. Our Urologist said that while infections are still possible, there is no need to do surgery if his system is functioning properly. She went on to say that some babies' systems learn to work around the problem without ever having any urinary tract issues. So, we're checking that off the list. All that is left now is Charlie's cranio-facial pre-op appointments, which will culminate in surgery this summer. Jack and I are both amazed and elated at this news. Charlie seems to be shedding the physical mistakes one by one. We're down to one more week of Phenobarbital and by March 1st, Charlie will be drug free for the first time in his entire life. Hooray!
...meanwhile, Uncle Gil read good night stories to Walker.

Here are two videos of wrestling and rough-housing on the lawn.
Walker was in heaven! (I think Quinn was too.)
I had to snap a shot of my favorite sculpture at the Arboretum.
Isn't she lovely?
Quinn contemplates jumping into the infinity pool.
Uncle Gil and Lisa man the stroller.
Quinn wants a turn in the wagon, but Walker finds it difficult to pull him.
Ah, that's better!
Quinn attempts to domesticate the local wildlife.
Charlie gets a turn in the Wagon too!

Meet-chya in Dallas!
Uncle Gil, Quinn and Lisa are all here for the weekend - all having flown in from separate coasts! Gil showed up in this rental convertible that made Walker do a double take. A car without a roof is pretty "awesome", as Walker pointed out.
Before the crew showed up, Walker wanted to measure Charlie.
Gil and Charlie get some face time!
Walker on the patio waiting for Lisa to arrive from Seattle.
Lisa and Charlie get some face time too!
...and so does cousin Quinn. Charlie thinks Quinn is hilarious!
We all head south to Waxahachie to visit Steve Toker and company. Rob drove up from Houston to see Gil, meet Lisa and hang for the day. (Steve and Rob Toker are brothers - Uncle Gil's friends and college roommates who now reside in Texas.) The kids ran wild on their ten acre ranch as the adults reminisced, drank yummy southern cocktails and enjoyed this gorgeous weather!
Walker the dirt farmer.
Daddy's shoulder is Charlie's favorite place to be!
My mint Julip, lovingly prepared by Anna, Steve's wife. She's from Louisiana, which means she knows what she's doing when it comes to mixing Mint Julips.
It isn't a party until someone starts a bonfire.
The boys crashed out in the car on the way home.
More to come tomorrow....

First Bike
When Pa John was here over the holidays, he picked up this bicycle for Walker. Its been too cold and icy to use until now. So this evening, before dinner, we had the Big Reveal! He was super excited to try it out.
As with most men in our family, he wanted some room to really see how she performed on the open road. So we moved our first bicycle ride out to the front yard.

...and a video of his first full ride! He picked it up very quickly.
Yay Walker!
